How do live lessons work?

Live lessons are interactive slides and course outlines that are used to teach Treeway Live Classes. Click on the arrows to navigate backward and forwards through the slides.

How Do I Use the Lesson Plans?

Read this lesson plan before class to familiarize yourself with the ideas and concepts you’ll be teaching the students. You may print this page out if you need to use it as a reference point during live classes.

This lesson is a guide, but feel free to expand on the content or decrease/increase what you teach depending on the learning levels of the students in your class or the amount of time you have to cover the material.

Can I show videos in live classes?

Yes, feel free to include additional material to supplement the class lesson material. Videos, Physical Objects, Games, Activities, etc. are okay to share in live classes.

Videos should have no advertisements or logos and should be viewed by you before showing them to the students to ensure no offensive or questionable content is included.

The video should make up only a small portion of the live class.

How do bookmarks work?

Bookmarks help you keep track of lessons you’re going to teach in future live classes. The bookmarks you see are for all your bookmarked lessons across all grades.

You can bookmark a lesson by visiting the lesson you want to bookmark and clicking the “bookmark” button in the bookmark section.

You can remove a single bookmark by visiting a lesson you’ve bookmarked and clicking the “bookmark” button again to unbookmark it.

You can clear all of your bookmarks by clicking the “clear all bookmarks” button. Be careful, this will erase all of your bookmarks.

Main Teaching Points

  • Draw: a picture of a diagram on the whiteboard. (Ex. flower diagram labeling the petals, stem, and leaves) Ask students if they know what this picture is called. (If you can’t draw, have a photo ready to share instead.)
  • Explain: a diagram is a picture with labels. We use diagrams to get information about the parts of something.
  • Draw or Show: a picture of a chart on the whiteboard or on camera. (Ex. A chore chart or to-do list)
  • Explain: a chart is a box that lists information.  Refer to the example chart to show how you get information from a chart.  An example of a chart in our publications is the bible reading schedule on jw.org.
  • Explain: charts and diagrams are important because they help us to get information in an organized way. Using charts and diagrams helps us to understand things better. Since we want to be like Jehovah, who is a God of order, it’s important that we learn how to be organized like he is.
  • Practice: make charts and diagrams with the students on the whiteboard by asking them about their pets. (Ex. List information about Fluffy in a chart. Or identify the parts of a pet’s body.)

Discussion Questions

  • Who can tell me what a chart is?
  • Who can tell me what a diagram is?
  •  Do you have a chore chart at home?
  • What is your pets name? (Let’s put that as the chart title. )
  • What color is your pet? How old is it? (Let’s add that to the chart.)

In-Class Activities

  • Draw a Bible diagram: encourage students to draw and recreate the diagram of the image in Daniel’s prophecy.  Photos of the results should be shared in the Grade 1 Class Group for other students to see.
  • Make a Bible character chart: encourage students and parents to make chart listing information about someone in the Bible. Photos of the results should be shared in the Grade 1 Class Group for other students to see.
