How do FreeNode lessons work?

This lesson is a guide, but feel free to expand on the content or decrease/increase what you teach depending on the learning levels of the students in your class or the amount of time you have to cover the material.

Can I show videos in FN classes?

Yes, feel free to include additional material to supplement the class lesson material. Videos, Physical Objects, Games, Activities, etc. are okay to share in live classes.

Videos should have no advertisements or logos and should be viewed by you before showing them to the students to ensure no offensive or questionable content is included.

The video should make up only 1-3 minutes of the live class and should not take the place of instructor-led instruction. Videos should be supplementary only.

How do bookmarks work?

Bookmarks help you keep track of lessons you’re going to teach in future live classes. The bookmarks you see are for all your bookmarked lessons across all grades.

You can bookmark a lesson by visiting the lesson you want to bookmark and clicking the “bookmark” button in the bookmark section.

You can remove a single bookmark by visiting a lesson you’ve bookmarked and clicking the “bookmark” button again to unbookmark it.

You can clear all of your bookmarks by clicking the “clear all bookmarks” button. Be careful, this will erase all of your bookmarks.

Class Lesson Plan

Objectives:

Students will understand how to multiply 1-digit to 4-digit numbers by multiples of 10, 100, and 1,000.
Students will learn the rule of adding zeros to the product when multiplying by these multiples.
Students will practice multiplying larger numbers by applying the learned strategies.


Materials:

Whiteboard/Chalkboard and markers/chalk
Visual aids (illustrations of multiplying by multiples of 10, 100, and 1,000)
Practice problems (for hands-on application of multiplication)


Introduction (2 minutes):

Briefly review basic multiplication facts.
Introduce the lesson focus: Multiplying numbers by multiples of 10, 100, and 1,000.

Activity 1 – Multiplying by Multiples of 10, 100, and 1,000 (8 minutes):

Explain the concept using simple examples: Multiplying by 10: Add one zero to the product. Example: 5 x 10 = 50
Multiplying by 100: Add two zeros to the product.Example: 8 x 100 = 800
Multiplying by 1,000: Add three zeros to the product.Example: 9 x 1,000 = 9,000
Write examples on the board and solve them step-by-step.

Activity 2 – Multiplying Numbers with Zeros (8 minutes):

Explain how to multiply numbers that already have zeros: Example: 90 x 200Multiply the non-zero digits first: 9 x 2 = 18
Count the total number of zeros in the original numbers (3 zeros).
Add these zeros to the product: 18 + 000 = 18,000
Write examples on the board and solve them step-by-step.
Engage students in a guided practice session, solving similar problems collaboratively.


Activity 3 – Practice Problems (8 minutes):

Present additional practice problems on the board for students to solve: Examples: 7 x 1000, 6 x 100, 40 x 50, 300 x 30
Encourage students to work independently or in pairs.
Walk around the class to provide support and address questions.
