Activity 1 – Reading Chapter 14 Part 1: Pages 104-108 (15 minutes):
Open the story in the Bookclub bookcase and have students take turns reading. Assign character roles if appropriate.
Activity 2 – Discussion (10 minutes):
Ask students the following questions:
- “Why do you think Mrs. Arable is worried about Fern’s behavior?”
- “How does Fern react to her mother’s concerns?”
- “Fern likes to spend more time with animals than people. Do you know anyone like that?”
- “What emotions do you think Mrs. Arable experiences during her conversation with Dr. Dorian? How does Dr. Dorian help to address her concerns?”
