1G6/1G7 – Flowers and Leaves

How do live lessons work?

Live lessons are interactive slides and course outlines that are used to teach Treeway Live Classes. Click on the arrows to navigate backward and forwards through the slides.

How Do I Use the Lesson Plans?

Read this lesson plan before class to familiarize yourself with the ideas and concepts you’ll be teaching the students. You may print this page out if you need to use it as a reference point during live classes.

This lesson is a guide, but feel free to expand on the content or decrease/increase what you teach depending on the learning levels of the students in your class or the amount of time you have to cover the material.

Can I show videos in live classes?

Yes, feel free to include additional material to supplement the class lesson material. Videos, Physical Objects, Games, Activities, etc. are okay to share in live classes.

Videos should have no advertisements or logos and should be viewed by you before showing them to the students to ensure no offensive or questionable content is included.

The video should make up only a small portion of the live class.

How do bookmarks work?

Bookmarks help you keep track of lessons you’re going to teach in future live classes. The bookmarks you see are for all your bookmarked lessons across all grades.

You can bookmark a lesson by visiting the lesson you want to bookmark and clicking the “bookmark” button in the bookmark section.

You can remove a single bookmark by visiting a lesson you’ve bookmarked and clicking the “bookmark” button again to unbookmark it.

You can clear all of your bookmarks by clicking the “clear all bookmarks” button. Be careful, this will erase all of your bookmarks.

Log in to save bookmarks.

1G6/1G7 – Flowers and Leaves

Main Teaching Points

  • Show:  A leaf or flower. If you don’t have a live example, draw one on the whiteboard or show a photo of one.
  • Explain: Jehovah created leaves and flowers. Flowers come in many different shapes and sizes.
  • Explain: Flowers are not just pretty they have a job. They make new plants two ways:
  • 1. By making seeds. (Sunflower) 2. By making fruit that is full of seeds.
  • Explain: A leaf is the flat, thin part of a plant. A leaf has a job, to make food for the plant. The leaf uses air, water, and sunlight to make food.
  • Explain: The leaf has 3 parts: blade, vein, stem. The blade is the flat part that the leaf uses to make food. Veins are the lines on the leaf that carry water and minerals in the leaf. The stem holds up the leaf.
  • **Show and Tell: (This activity needs to be mentioned in the description for this class.) Ask students to show a leaf they brought to the class on camera. Ask them to describe their leaf: (Is it small, medium or large? What color is it? Where did you this leaf? Why did you pick this leaf for show and tell? What do you like about it?)

Discussion Questions

  • What does a flower do for the plant?
  • What does the leaf do for the plant?
  • How many parts does the leaf have?
  • Which one is the blade? The flat part or the lines?
  • What does the blade do for the plant?
  • What does the vein do for the plant?
  • What does the stem do for the plant?

In-Class Activities

  • Leaf Crowns: Encourage the students to make leaf crowns with their parents
They will need fresh leaves, a brown paper bag, double-sided tape or glue,
scissors. They can cut the top of the paper bag off and adjust it to fit on the child’s head like a crown,
Then they simply glue or tape the leaves and flowers onto the crown. If they want they can draw on it or embellish it with flowers and other decorations. (If they don’t want to make a crown they can also make a leaf bracelet using the same method.) Photos of the results should be shared in the Grade 1 Class Group for other students to see.
  • Make Leaf and Flower Print Art: Encourage students to try out this fun art project with the help of their parents. They will need  leaves and flowers, blank paper, a hammer, and tape is optional. The place the leave or flower between two sheets of paper. They can use tape it to the table so it won’t move. Then they hammer the the paper over the plant. When they remove the plant from the papers, an imprint will be left behind on the papers.  Photos of the results should be shared in the Grade 1 Class Group for other students to see.
