How do live lessons work?

Live lessons are interactive slides and course outlines that are used to teach Treeway Live Classes. Click on the arrows to navigate backward and forwards through the slides.

How Do I Use the Lesson Plans?

Read this lesson plan before class to familiarize yourself with the ideas and concepts you’ll be teaching the students. You may print this page out if you need to use it as a reference point during live classes.

This lesson is a guide, but feel free to expand on the content or decrease/increase what you teach depending on the learning levels of the students in your class or the amount of time you have to cover the material.

Can I show videos in live classes?

Yes, feel free to include additional material to supplement the class lesson material. Videos, Physical Objects, Games, Activities, etc. are okay to share in live classes.

Videos should have no advertisements or logos and should be viewed by you before showing them to the students to ensure no offensive or questionable content is included.

The video should make up only a small portion of the live class.

How do bookmarks work?

Bookmarks help you keep track of lessons you’re going to teach in future live classes. The bookmarks you see are for all your bookmarked lessons across all grades.

You can bookmark a lesson by visiting the lesson you want to bookmark and clicking the “bookmark” button in the bookmark section.

You can remove a single bookmark by visiting a lesson you’ve bookmarked and clicking the “bookmark” button again to unbookmark it.

You can clear all of your bookmarks by clicking the “clear all bookmarks” button. Be careful, this will erase all of your bookmarks.

Class Summary

Reinforcing the social studies lesson that teaches about the United States, its governments, and borders. Students should leave the class feeling comfortable with the concept of what a border is, how many states there are, what a country is, how the government makes laws, the location of the United States capital and the way the capitol building is used, and who the king of Jehovah’s kingdom is and the differences between human governments and Jehovah’s kingdom.

Main Teaching Points

  • Show: a photo of the capitol building. Ask if anyone knows what they do in this building.
  • Explain: the capitol building is where the government makes rules for the country.
  • Explain: a country is a land that is controlled by a government. A government is a group of people who make rules for the people in the country to follow. The president is the leader of the government.
  • Explain: we follow the laws of our state and country because the bible tells us to. But we are citizens of Jehovah’s government. Jesus is the leader of God’s kingdom and God’s kingdom rules from heaven. (Romans 13:1)
  • Show: a state map and point out the borderlines on it.
  • Explain: a border is an invisible line that separates the states and shows how much land belongs to each state. Each state has its own laws.
  • Explain:  Jehovah’s government is different because there are many congregations all over the country and the world, but they do not follow different rules. They all follow the same rules made by Jehovah. (John 17:21)
  • Show: a map showing the states. Ask students to identify which of the regions they live in. (Northeast, West, South, and Midwest)

In-Class Activities

  • Can they name all 50 states?: Encourage students to learn and remember the names of all 50 states.
  • Draw Warwick Bethel: Encourage students to draw Warwick Bethel. Photos of the drawings can be shared in the Grade 1 Class Group for other students to see.
  • Special State Drawing: Every place on this earth is special. Encourage students to draw a picture of an animal, plant, mountain, or even food that is unique to their state. Photos of the drawings can be shared in the Grade 1 Class Group for other students to see.
