How do live lessons work?

How Do I Use the Lesson Plans?

Read this lesson plan before class to familiarize yourself with the ideas and concepts you’ll be teaching the students. You may print this page out if you need to use it as a reference point during live classes.

This lesson is a guide, but feel free to expand on the content or decrease/increase what you teach depending on the learning levels of the students in your class or the amount of time you have to cover the material.

Can I show videos in live classes?

Yes, feel free to include additional material to supplement the class lesson material. Videos, Physical Objects, Games, Activities, etc. are okay to share in live classes.

Videos should have no advertisements or logos and should be viewed by you before showing them to the students to ensure no offensive or questionable content is included.

The video should make up only a small portion of the live class.

How do bookmarks work?

Bookmarks help you keep track of lessons you’re going to teach in future live classes. The bookmarks you see are for all your bookmarked lessons across all grades.

You can bookmark a lesson by visiting the lesson you want to bookmark and clicking the “bookmark” button in the bookmark section.

You can remove a single bookmark by visiting a lesson you’ve bookmarked and clicking the “bookmark” button again to unbookmark it.

You can clear all of your bookmarks by clicking the “clear all bookmarks” button. Be careful, this will erase all of your bookmarks.

Class Summary

Students should leave the class understanding that laws are made my members of the government. They should also understand that the president makes laws for the country, the governor makes laws for the state and the mayor makes laws for the city.

Main Teaching Points

  • Explain: Laws are made by governments. When people hear the word government, they might think of the president or other people in charge of the country. But there are many people making laws in the United States.
  • Explain: In order to make laws, the people in the government have to meet together. Every government has a main building that they meet in. You might see a city hall building when you go downtown in your city. There is a Capitol building in every state. There is a building called the White House in Washington, D.C.
  • Explain: In every state, there is a government made up of people called legislatures. The legislatures make the laws for the state. In every city, there is a government called the city council. The city council makes the laws for the city.
  • Explain: Every country, state, and city has a leader. The leader of the United States is called the President. The leader of the state is called the governor. The leader of the city is called the mayor.

In-Class Activities

  • Who Makes the Laws?: Encourage parents and students to discuss who makes the laws in their city and state. As a bonus question, they can discuss who makes the laws in God’s kingdom. (1 John 5:3)
